Understanding the physical storage design
Storage is the foundation of any vSphere design. Properly designed storage is the key for vSphere features, such as High Availability, Distributed Resource Scheduling, and Fault Tolerance, to operate correctly.
How to do it…
Performance, capacity, availability, and recoverability are all factors that must be taken into account when determining the hardware and configuration of the physical storage. The physical storage design requires the following steps:
Select a storage hardware that satisfies the logical storage design. This includes the storage array, storage host bus adapters, and any switching, fiber channel, or Ethernet that may be required to support storage connectivity.
Verify the compatibility of each storage hardware component using the VMware HCL.
Design the storage configuration to satisfy the design factors related to availability, recoverability, performance, and capacity.
