Measuring and fostering sustainability

Now that we have learned what sustainable software engineering is, let's try to design a roadmap for carbon governance, just as we did with costs. Let's start with measuring our carbon impact, which we'll learn about in the next section.

The Microsoft Emissions Impact Dashboard

The first thing to do before any action is to be able to measure carbon efficiency. This is sometimes hard—for example, when you have hybrid applications—but if your workloads are all in Azure, then we have a dashboard that will help us out.
