Summary
This chapter has introduced the concept of model-based systems engineers. It should always be remembered that MBSE is not a sub-branch of systems engineering, but it is systems engineering that is performed in a consistent and rigorous fashion.
In MBSE, all the knowledge information and data concerning the system is contained in a single source of truth that is the model, which is an abstraction of the system. Whenever any stakeholder needs to know anything concerning the system, the model is interrogated.
Now that the subject of MBSE has been introduced, the next chapter of the book focuses on a specific application of MBSE, that of systems and their associated interfaces, and how the concepts introduced in this chapter can be applied in more detail.
