In this chapter, we looked at how Power BI can help us identify data anomalies by viewing column quality. We looked at how to examine data structures and data types in the Power Query Editor. We interrogated the properties of our columns by enabling the Column quality setting. Finally, we explored the data statistics associated with our columns by using Column distribution and Column profile. Power BI Desktop is an easy-to-use exploratory data analysis tool. Column quality can quickly alert you to possible problems in your data. Having a tool that shows you how much of your data is valid, how much is null, and how much will generate errors lets you know at a glance about possible problems.
Looking at how the data is distributed in your columns can alert you to missing data. The distribution can also let you know at a glance if your data is unexpectedly skewed.
