Summary

In this chapter, we focused on the three core topics for the cloud journey: the why, what, and how of organizations starting their cloud journey. These questions were answered to form the fundamental foundation for the cloud journey. In addition, we have explored different techniques to identify the answers to these three questions.

Each cloud modernization journey is driven by the why, which is essentially the business value achievable by cloud modernization. This chapter familiarized us with the why and identified some basic benefits of cloud modernization. We also learned different mechanisms to evaluate the current workload state or, in other words, what needs to be modernized – continuous evaluation of the what ensures the success of cloud modernization. We explored different tools from IBM Garage to identify and assess the right candidate for the cloud journey.
