Applications that need to play sounds or show videos are usually games, while others are full-blown multimedia apps. Qt Multimedia can handle both.
Qt Multimedia can be used with both Qt Widgets and Qt Quick, or even without a GUI interface. It has both C++ and QML APIs, but the QML API has a few special treats and tricks. A little-known fact is that Qt can also play 3D positional audio in Qt Quick. You can control the gain and pitch with three dimensions.
