Understanding IoT communication

How do IoT devices communicate? Actually, depending on their purpose and architecture, there are a couple of ways in which communications, updates, and data transfers are facilitated. These are directly linked to the internet aka cloud connectivity, internal networks, and IoT gateways.

IoT communication layers

IoT devices are unique because they have limited processing and storage ability, making them challenging to work with. Engineers needed to find a way to integrate a logic controller and chips, which makes them capable of communicating and allows for remote control, with the possibility of local data storage. To do this, five layers of architecture were developed to cover the various demands on these devices. It is important to remember that these five layers are not present in every device or solution. Instead, a specific layer is incorporated if the solution necessitates it. Those five layers are as follows:
