Archiving projects

When you're working on a lot of projects, some of them might go stale after a while. To prevent this, if you have your GitLab filled with old projects, you can archive these projects.

An archived project is a read-only repository, which means that you cannot push new commits to it, but it is still possible to open issues for this repository.

In order to archive a project, you go to the project settings page and click on the Dangerous Settings option. This will expand a few more options. The first option is Archive project. Click on this button.

When you go to the project page now, you see a yellow block that tells you that the project has been archived, as shown in the following screenshot. If you need to work on this project, you can unarchive it by going to the Settings page. Click on the Dangerous Settings option, and then click on Unarchive.
