Exposing data using dashboarding and BI tools
We often think of serving data as simply making dashboards. While dashboarding is essential in any data strategy, serving data is a more complex process.
Part of doing this well is fulfilling the needs of all your users. Your more technical users may prefer a programming language to query your data. Others prefer a text message when a certain threshold has been met. Other users might not even be human. You could be serving data to your applications via an API or using it in your warehouse to enrich an application’s capabilities.
In this chapter, we are working with a broad definition when we refer to serving data. We will present some of the most common approaches to sharing data and how to make the most of them depending on your organization’s needs.
