Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity
Business continuity (BC) and disaster recovery (DR) planning help organizations understand how much data they can afford to lose, how quickly they need to be able to recover from an outage, and how much downtime they can tolerate. Both concepts are closely related and aim to ensure the resilience and stability of an organization in the face of potential disruptions. However, they address different aspects of the disaster response process.
BC focuses on maintaining the essential functions of an organization during and after a disruptive event, such as a natural disaster, cyberattack, or major equipment failure. BC planning includes identifying critical processes, identifying single points of failure (SPOFs), evaluating potential risks, and developing strategies to minimize the impact of disruptions on an organization.
