Communications costs
AWS charges per minute for telecommunications in addition to the per-minute voice charges that we just discussed. The way that Amazon charges for line usage is broken into three separate categories:
- Regions where Connect is deployed
- Whether an inbound call is toll-free or DID
- Outbound calls
The primary selector for fees is the region to which the Connect instance is deployed. You are going to have to select this first. The primary location should be close to your base of operations. You wouldn't want to run Connect outside of the country where your agents are located if it can be avoided. Once you have selected the region, we can start diving into the inbound and outbound costs. For all the cost explanations in this book, we will always use the us-east-1 region.
