Nonverbal communication – body language
You may be sitting in a meeting and presenting all the wonderful things that your team has done, but with a drooped shoulder and hands below your waist; the content is getting across but the message is not. People read nonverbal signs, and trust it more than what the mouth has to say. Body language denotes various nonverbal forms of communication such as body gestures, hand movements, lip movements, facial expression, and eye contact among others.
Body language cuts across language and has hence grown to prominence owing to the subconscious signals the body emanates. For example, across languages and cultures, the nodding of a head from side to side means no and nodding vertically denotes acceptance.
Body language is a major area of study. In this book, I will touch base on aspects of body language that render communication effective and productive.
