Summary


In this chapter, we introduced the need for fix packs and how to locate, download, and apply them using the IBM Update Installer for WebSphere software. We have demonstrated an easy approach to maintenance, and by using these steps you should be confident to prepare for maintenance in your environments. We did not cover all variation of applying updates; however, using these steps we are confident you would be able to apply any other updates not demonstrated if required.

It is recommended that you plan your update strategy for when you move into production as it can be a complex task organizing production updates, often due to the fact that change requests are required and change windows may be infrequent for many live environments.

Since there are many releases, updates, and fixes throughout a given product's lifecycle, it is a good idea to officially assign the task to administrative personnel to ensure that your WAS product is up-to-date and to schedule time to continually assess...
