Other considerations


In addition to the configurable virtual hardware options, there are other considerations for the implementation of virtual machines. This section will only cover a few of the considerations that are incorporated into a design that has vSphere virtual machines. These topics will cover the available vSphere options. With this in mind, remember that there are many things that you can do within the guest operating system to optimize it for virtualization. For example, stop any unused service in an attempt to lower CPU consumption by this virtual machine. Seek out VMware and other vendor documentation for further guidance.

Renaming virtual machines

A virtual machine's files reflect the name given to the virtual machine during creation. If a virtual machine's inventory name is changed later, the filenames do not automatically reflect the name change; the original virtual machine name is retained.
