Generative artificial intelligence (AI) systems represent a new era of AI capabilities. Unlike narrow AI, which is programmed to perform specific, limited tasks without general intelligence or adaptability beyond their narrow focus, generative AI can automatically create a wide range of new content and artifacts such as text, images, audio, and video based on its training data.
Recent advances in deep learning have rapidly accelerated the sophistication of generative models such as GPT-4, DALL-E 3, and Stable Diffusion. While this unlocks new creative potential, it also introduces profound ethical challenges that demand urgent attention as these technologies proliferate across society.
