What if an Error is Discovered?
What happens when an error in a spreadsheet is discovered? First off, it is absolutely normal for occasional errors to be discovered. So it is not surprising that this issue should arise.
In almost every case the procedure for dealing with an error in data is to correct the error in the spreadsheet and then rerun the processing depicted in Figure 6.1. It rarely makes sense to go into the infrastructure to fix the error after processing has commenced. In other words, the time to correct a spreadsheet error is at the moment the spreadsheet is populated with data, not after the spreadsheet has begun its journey into corporate data.
In almost every case, the amount of time required for processing is so small that it simply makes more sense to erase all the processing that has occurred for the spreadsheet and rerun the processing with corrected numbers.
