Manual Effort Required
Let’s return again to the issue of how much manual effort is required in spreadsheet disambiguation. It goes without saying that the less manual effort required, the better. Minimizing the manual effort speeds the process and reduces the chance of human error.
When considering the spreadsheet disambiguation processing (as summarized in Figure 6.1), there really are two kinds of manual interventions that are encountered. One manual intervention is the simple triggering of a process once the data is ready and in place. This manual intervention is inescapable, and is not prone to errors.
The second type of manual intervention is one that does require some amount of thought and skill. The only place where this intervention occurs is where the ssdef specifications are made. Unfortunately, there is no way around manual intervention here.
