Creating a flat roof with a plain parapet
There are many ways to create roofs in SketchUp using only its native tools, such as Line, Offset, Follow Me, and Protractor. Because this chapter is a continuation of Chapter 5, where we worked on a commercial building, we will use the same project to create a low slope roof (or flat roof) and add a parapet and other features to showcase a visually appealing building exterior.
When thinking about creating a basic flat roof in SketchUp, without the need for the intricacies of real-world construction, you are going to have to remove yourself from real-life design. That means we are not building roof joists, a deck, insulation, or a membrane. This is SketchUp-land only, where we will show only the visible, more attractive parts of the roof for the purpose of showing a client the schematic design. We won’t even worry about the roof pitch. (We recognize this goes against everything you know!)
