This chapter was an exciting opportunity for you to again apply your skills and abilities in using CAD, CAM, and 3D printing technology to bring your designs into the physical world. I have always found useful projects, such as the box we created in this chapter, to be even more satisfying than the novelty items and trinkets that are so commonly created using hobby 3D printers. Hopefully you too have enjoyed this project and are motivated to continue with these challenges!
As we strive to create projects like the multi-part box with a sliding lid, we must take great care in planning out our projects by taking important measurements of the things our designs must interact with, as well as considering all steps of the manufacturing process throughout the design stages.
If we didn’t accurately measure the items that were to be stored in our box, or accurately incorporate tolerances to suit the type of 3D printer and material we are using, then this might not be successful...
