Creating our base mesh and instance object
In this section, we will create our base mesh and also spend some time modeling a basic but more interesting instance object and distributing it across our base mesh using the nodes that we've looked at in Chapter 1, Using Geometry Nodes to Create Dynamic Scenes.
Let's start by creating a plane object, which we will use as our base mesh.
Creating the base mesh
Follow these steps to create the base mesh and apply its scale:
- Create a new Blender project.
- Delete all the objects in the scene by pressing A and then pressing X to confirm the deletion.
- Click on the Geometry Nodes tab to enter its workspace.
Let's begin by creating our plane – this will be the area where our objects will appear. Let's make the plane 10 m x 10 m.
- Create a plane by pressing Shift + A, and then select Mesh | Plane.
