Sustaining successful change with self-service learning
Successful adoption of new technologies starts with awareness of what’s coming and the building of desire. To me, the rest of the ADKAR model focuses on thoroughly understanding the how-to aspects of the change being adopted. When that process of education and knowledge transfer begins, there is often a focus on live instructor-led training. While these are great opportunities to share useful information in a short time and a chance to ask questions, the amount of information retained is pretty small, especially if users of the tool are delayed.
To achieve ability and facilitate reinforcement, there are two key factors in my experience. The first is support from peers to help one another learn in the context of their daily work.
