Chapter 6: Program Execution Challenges
In this chapter, we will continue the discussion of program-level agile with a focus on execution. Planning and execution go hand in hand. Indeed, as we saw in the previous chapter, key planning tools such as roadmaps and the program board are living documents that support ongoing execution since they are connected to the actual work items being delivered. This chapter rounds out the previous one, providing essential tools for scaling agile team execution to the program. Program-level execution is so important for business agility that the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) calls it Essential in SAFe 5.0. In other words, you are not following SAFe if you are not delivering at the team of teams level.
In this chapter, we will cover the following:
- Overseeing the program room
- Negotiating and visualizing dependencies
- Reducing waste, managing scope, and communicating progress
