Defining our goals
To get started, as in our previous chapters, we do want to set ourselves some definite goals for this phase of the project. In this instance, these could be very simply stated as wanting to evaluate and then improve the key areas of lighting, global illumination, image sampling, and materials so as to ultimately improve the technical and artistic quality of the final renders we will be taking.

We do need to note that in V-Ray there are a number of different ways in which we could approach improving our final image quality, each of them having their own merits and drawbacks. Some approaches, while quick and easy to set up, pay a heavy penalty in terms of final render times.
Others, although producing quicker final renders, are much more technical in their set up and require a deeper level of understanding of how the parameters being tweaked interconnect and so affect one another.
