Understanding the process


Every organization has a change process in one way or another. The procedure is different, document acronyms are different, the number of phases are different, the amount of details they record is different; there are many variations. However, somehow all companies get from the initiation of the change to the final step by means of a Change Order type document. Some companies simply write a Change Order document and manage all the estimating and negotiating in their heads or on a spreadsheet. PCM allows each organization to set up its own process of managing changes. It allows for a different process per project if the need arises or a set of document types for a specific project is utilized.

Look at the change management process as a matrix. The rows are the contracts and contract types, and the columns are the phases. The rows are broken into two contract types: Budget and Commitment (the Custom category, if used in Change Management, also uses the Commitment type...
