New features for Data Guard in Oracle 11g R2


With the Oracle 11g R2 database, the following new features are provided for Oracle Data Guard:

  • Oracle Data Guard configurations now consist of a primary database and up to a maximum of 30 standby databases.

  • The FAL_CLIENT database parameter is optional and no longer required.

  • The default archive destination used by Oracle Automatic Storage Management (Oracle ASM) and the Fast Recovery Area (FRA) feature has been changed from LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_10 to LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_1.

  • Redo transport compression is no longer limited to compressing redo data only when redo gaps are resolved; whenever compression has been enabled for a destination, all of the redo data sent to that destination is compressed.

  • The new ALTER SYSTEM FLUSH REDO SQL statement can be used during failover time to flush all unsent redo from a mounted primary database to a standby database, thus allowing for zero data loss failover to be performed even if the primary database is not running in...
