An overview of backup and recovery
A backup is a method adopted by an organization to copy its business-critical data to a particular location (disk or tape), guarding it against any natural or unanticipated data failure events. These backup copies could be used later to recover the data after any data loss event. There are various options and technologies available across different vendors to fulfill these requirements.
A data loss or corruption event could occur in a number of ways:
Data being deleted
Hardware failure
Server crashing
Recovery is a process to repair data loss events using the pre-existing copies of the data.
