Summary
In this chapter, we looked at AI and how it evolved from humble beginnings until today, taking the world by storm. Through the different stages, we saw how AI slowly started seeping into various applications and leaving its mark, even where people traditionally reigned supreme. The chapter also introduced us to the different subfields of AI and briefly explained their contribution to the bigger picture.
Finally, we skimmed through various AI pitfalls, thus helping us realize that even though AI is a very powerful technology, it also has several limitations. This is why we need to seek new, more powerful alternatives, and this new hope seems to rely on a combination of statistical and symbolic AI.
But before delving further into it, in our next chapter, we will look at the rise and fall of symbolic AI so that we can understand what it is, before exploring the new field of neuro-symbolic AI.
