Understanding the prerequisites for supported SharePoint server protection


This recipe will cover the information that you need to understand the prerequisites for a supported SharePoint server protection scenario.

These supported versions are used for the SharePoint server workload for DPM protection:

  • SharePoint 2013

  • SharePoint 2010

  • SharePoint 2007

  • Windows SharePoint Server 3.0

If your SharePoint version is not listed in the preceding list, you should consider upgrading your SharePoint farm if you want to be able to recover it using System Center 2012 R2 Data Protection Manager.

SharePoint server protection relies on an underlying technology within the Windows Server operating system called Volume Shadow Copy Services (VSS). For more information on how a VSS file operates and works, please read the Change tracking process recipe in Chapter 1, Pre-installation Tasks.
