Configuring your SQL Server 2012 for DPM protection
This recipe will cover how you configure your SQL Server 2012 for System Center 2012 R2 Data Protection Manager to be able to protect the SQL Server 2012 databases.
Getting ready
Microsoft took a new security approach with the release of Microsoft SQL Server 2012 and further restricted who actually is granted SA rights. This is a great approach, but it also causes some headaches for some backup administrators who are not familiar with how the SA rights work or operate in SQL Server.
As a DPM administrator, it is important that you implement the right security approach to protect and recover the SQL Server technology. It is not a recommended idea to grant too many rights in a system; instead, provide just the needed security rights so that DPM can operate without causing unnecessary security exposure.
