Understanding the replication process from the primary to secondary DPM server

This recipe will cover the information needed to understand how the replication process will vary for different workloads between a primary and a secondary DPM server.

With the intention to build a disaster recovery solution for your company, it is crucial that you have knowledge of how the DPM server software will operate when replicating the protected data sources data from a primary DPM server to a secondary DPM server.

The primary DPM server will have its backup schedule, which will map the actual definition of the restore plan that is presented in the business continuity plan for the company. When enabling a secondary DPM server protection, either via chaining or standard DPM-DPM-DR protection, the DCOM object managing the DPMRA service will be updated with the secondary DPM server computer account. This makes it possible for the secondary DPM server to make a secondary copy of the protected data.
