In this chapter, you learned about the different authentication methods available for SharePoint—Windows authentication, forms-based authentication, and SAML-based authentication. Each authentication method has its advantages, and its usefulness depends on both the client/server infrastructure (for example, using domain-based services and web applications for internal users) and the type of identity providers that are used (Active Directory, a database of some sort, or another organization's identity store). You also learned about the different monitoring and troubleshooting procedures to help you resolve issues.
In the next chapter, we'll learn about how to plan for and configure site collections in the SharePoint environment.
