Managing exchange certificates
In this section, we will review the use of Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificates in Exchange Organization. SSL is used to secure communications between clients and servers. Clients can be mobile phones, tablets, and computers inside or outside your organization's network. SSL requires you to use digital certificates.
Digital certificates are used for the following purposes:
- Authentication: This is used to authenticate the holders of the certificates to be true based on their claims. The holders can be users, websites, and network resources.
- Encryption: They are used to protect data that is flowing through the network from tampering and theft.
There are many uses of digital certificates such as web server authentication, Internet Protocol Security (IPSec), Transport Layer Security, Security/Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (SMIME), and for code signing.
