Core Security, Privacy, and Security Tenets
As you learned in Chapter 1, Introduction to Cloud Computing, security is a shared responsibility model. This means that while certain responsibilities transfer to the cloud provider in a cloud environment operating model, the customer retains other responsibilities. You should be aware of when it is your responsibility to provide the appropriate level of security and control. Conversely, you must know where it is not your responsibility—that is, you must know the responsibilities of the cloud services provider in terms of ensuring that their platform is kept compliant and your data is kept private.
Security, compliance, privacy, and transparency are fundamental for a trust model and are core tenets of Microsoft’s Online Services. Figure 8.4 highlights the trust principles:
