Using a student journal to help students learn how to write a research paper
The journal tool can be used for a large number of different purposes. In this recipe, we will see how the journal can be used to document the progress of a research paper, and teach students how to use resources without plagiarizing something that students often have a difficult time with. As the students progress through the process, they will cite their sources and provide links to web resources from which they are gathering information. They will journal about the information they received from each source, in their own words.
As this is a journal, they will be able to receive feedback from the teacher on each post. This will help guide the process even further, and provide an excellent teaching tool. The completed project will be a collection of very good notes from which they can write the first draft of their research paper.
This recipe will familiarize the reader with the journal tool.
