Time for action—assigning modulators in LMMS

Now we're going to put our envelopes and LOFs to good use, starting with volume:

  1. In the envelope section, click on VOLUME as the target.
  2. Set the parameter knobs, shown as follows:

  3. Be sure that the AMT parameter knob is turned up all the way.
  4. Play the Y key on your computer's keyboard, and listen to the how the envelope affects volume.
  5. Now turn the AMT parameter knob all the way to the left to hear the same envelope reversed in effect.
  6. Now click on the CUTOFF target:
  7. This envelope and LFO are assigned to adjust the cutoff of the filter. Turn on the filter if it isn't already on, and select Low Pass Filter.
  8. Now turn the amount knob up on the envelope, and adjust the parameter knobs so that they read like this:

  9. Hit Y on your computer keyboard. Do you hear any effect?
  10. Try reversing the effect of the envelope by turning the AMT knob all the way to the left.
  11. Now the sound appears to be filtering. Turn the AMT knob all the way to the right...
