The tips for dealing with pretexting attacks are as follows:
- Protect your personal information and never share it on the phone, email, or through popups, as shown in the following screenshot or on websites:
- Always keep an eye on your bank statements; even a small amount can lead to much bigger ones
- Add two-factor authentication on everything that is possible (online banking, social media accounts, ISP accounts, and so on):
- Create passwords that are hard to guess or crack
- Filter emails and don't click on any suspicious links
- Don't rely just on technology, keep in mind what you can do to make a hackers job harder, they will always find a way (and most probably through social engineering) to reach out to you
- Use a shredder against dumpster diving
- Be extra cautious with VOIP calls specially from strangers
- Keep in mind that there is nothing for free
