Building a Standards-Compliant Joomla! Template from Scratch
As I mentioned earlier I am assuming that you already know how to build a Joomla! template. What we will focus on here is what to look out for, whilst ensuring that the template is as accessible as possible. Once you have got to grip with how to build your template, or modify an existing one, for it to be considered more accessible, there are only a couple of major issues that you need to keep in mind while designing. There are many advanced aspects of using Joomla! templates, such as using image replacement techniques for graphical headers, or adding AJAX functionality; and these have specific workarounds in order for them to be considered accessible. However, there are more advanced techniques that we will not cover here as what I want is for you to start with an accessible canvas that you can later add to, if you wish.
