There are many aspects to consider when establishing the measurement and realization mechanism. On top of the ones we already mentioned in this chapter, I would like to add the following.
The importance of various perceptions
Always remember the difference between numbers-based reality versus perceptions-based reality. Numbers will not always tell you the truth, and on some occasions, perceptions can be more accurate than numbers. Perceptions originate from two sources: firstly, the outside world, where you have your end users, partners, and regulator, and secondly, the inside world, where your organization’s people involved in the DevOps evolution are. After many years in DevOps evolutions, I tend to believe that corridor whispers should be trusted primarily, with production numbers in second place.
