Benefit Measurement and Realization
This chapter introduces us to a rather complex phase of our DevOps 360° operating model – that of benefit measurement and realization. We will start by outlining the value proposition of measuring and realizing benefits during the DevOps 360° evolution and will highlight the importance of continuity and materializing the DevOps equilibrium while doing so. Continuing, we will highlight the important distinction between a key performance target (KPT) and a metric. These are two terms that the industry often confuses. Moving on, we will also bring clarity on how to assess whether a KPT or a metric provides either proof of success or an indicator of success when measuring or realizing it. Afterward, we will stress the importance of capturing the needs of your DevOps 360° stakeholder ecosystem on what to measure, also outlining a small exercise you can conduct to capture them.
