Making an image carousel

Image carousels are among the most popular marketing and showcase tools used on websites. They can also be used to show image galleries or presentations.

In this recipe we're going to build an image carousel. It will support automatic timed transitions that stop if the user moves over the carousel area. It will have a navigation area consisting of control rectangles denoting the currently active images and the number of remaining images.

This will be a 3D carousel utilizing HTLM5 features, such as CSS3 3D transforms.

Getting ready

We will need three images in the directory along with our code. They should be named 1.jpg, 2.jpg, and 3.jpg respectively.

How to do it...

We will be creating the image carousel by using jQuery, HTML5, and CSS transformations.

  1. First, we will create an HTML page with a carousel and the gray image controls. We're going to position the controls in the middle-bottom section of the carousel.
