Sentiment and declarative statements
When one examines the comments in a survey, it is normal to find two kinds of sentences in the comments: statements of sentiment and declarative statements.
When it comes to analyzing the survey comments, two very different kinds of analysis are done: sentiment analysis and mindset analysis.
A simple example of a statement of sentiment is, “I really liked the lamb chops.” A simple example of a declarative sentence is, “We went to the restaurant on a Tuesday evening.” The statements of sentiment tell about the likes and dislikes of the customer. And the statements of declaration tell about the mindset of the customer. Fig 10.4 shows this type of analysis.
