Functions vade mecum
The Formula framework provides numerous built-in functions and operators that can be used depending on the context of execution (for example, summary functions are only available on reporting and some other functions are not available on custom formula fields or specific workflow types).
To master formulas, you need experience, for sure, but also a sort of ingenuity to combine the available building blocks to get to your algorithm.
Most of the functions in the following sections can be tested on custom formula fields, validation rules, or workflow rules, so you can test them while reading this chapter for hands-on experience.
We'll see how to build a custom formula field in depth in the next sections, but remember that functions' documentation can be found in the Advanced Formula editor shown in the following screenshot (available when building custom formula fields, validation rules, and workflow rules, for example):
