The future
Microsoft has committed to continuing investments in BizTalk Server and a strong roadmap for BizTalk Services. The following are the key announced developments coming for both products:
BizTalk Server will ship a major release every alternate year
A platform update release of BizTalk Server will ship every other year starting with BizTalk Server 2013 R2 this year
The following additions are planned for BizTalk Services with a target of a quarterly release cadence:
Workflow integration
Rules engine integration
Business Activity Monitoring
Adapter extensibility/SDK
Custom code improvements in bridges
Integration with Windows Azure Active Directory (WAAD)
Business Process Modelling Notation (BPMN) support
Windows Azure store for third-party components
Scheduled backups
