Introduction

In the previous chapter, we completed the SuperSideScroller game and used 1D Blend Spaces, animation blueprints, and animation montages. In this chapter, we're going to build on that knowledge and learn how to add multiplayer functionality to a game using Unreal Engine.

Multiplayer games have grown quite a lot in the last decade. Games such as Fortnite, PUBG, League of Legends, Rocket League, Overwatch, and CS: GO have gained a lot of popularity in the gaming community and have had great success. Nowadays, almost all games need to have some kind of multiplayer experience in order to be more relevant and successful.

The reason for that is it adds a new layer of possibilities on top of the existing gameplay, such as being able to play with friends in cooperative mode (also known as co-op mode) or against people from all around the world, which greatly increases the longevity and value of a game.
