SharePoint development history

It is good to know the history of SharePoint development; a few options are available for developing in SharePoint, so let’s see how it has changed over the years. In addition, learning about the history will help us better understand the latest trends in SharePoint development and contextualize what we are doing and why we are doing it this way. For example, SharePoint development started with a farm solution on the version of 2007, also called MOSS 2007.

Here is a list of various development strategies in SharePoint:

  • Farm solutions: These full-trust code solutions need to be deployed on SharePoint Server. This option is unavailable with SharePoint Online as we cannot access SharePoint Server.
  • Sandbox solutions: This was introduced with the 2010 version of SharePoint and could be deployed on site collection, which did not require any code on SharePoint Server. Sandbox solutions with server-side code have been deprecated and removed...
