Converting a physical machine
IT administrators want to have the possibility of virtualizing existing physical machines when they adopt a virtualization technology. Converting a physical server to virtual gives you many benefits, for example, you can reduce power consumption or reduce the number of servers you have to manage and maintain.
In a XenServer environment, you can use Citrix XenConvert to accomplish this task. It is a physical-to-virtual (P2V) conversion tool that converts a workload from a server or desktop machine running Windows to a virtual machine in XenServer, virtual appliance, or a virtual disk.
Note
You can download the latest release of XenConvert for X86 or X64 systems from http://www.citrix.com/English/ss/downloads/details.asp?downloadId=2318170&productId=683148.
Microsoft .Net Framework 4.0 is required to install and use XenConvert.
