Using MCMS and SharePoint Together


There are usually numerous ways to approach most problems when coming up with a solution. Both SharePoint and Microsoft Content Management Server have areas where they are very strong, but neither product should be seen as a replacement for the other.

Microsoft Content Management Server (MCMS) is strong in the areas of content presentation, authoring, separation of content from the presentation of the content, a robust publishing workflow, and retention of all prior versions of a document. SharePoint Products and Technologies (SPT), including both Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) and SharePoint Portal Server (SPS), are strong in the area of online collaboration, document storage and collaboration within workspaces, and rapid design and creation of custom lists.
