Virtual desktops
Windows 11 represents a convergence of methods to access applications and enterprise data. While Virtual Drive Infrastructure (VDI) has been ubiquitous in most enterprise environments for some time, the method of configuring the Windows image has been an iterative improvement process. Azure Virtual Desktop, Microsoft 365, and Microsoft Dev Box are offerings from Microsoft that represent different approaches to the virtual desktop space:
- Azure Virtual Desktop is an offering from Microsoft that can be run in Azure or on-prem
- Microsoft 365 is a pre-configured, cloud-based service that provides a desktop to users from anywhere
- Microsoft Dev Box is a managed service that allows developers to spin up ready-to-use virtual machines that are pre-configured for a specific product or project
