Importing a Software Depot

Image Builder requires a software depot to be imported first before you can create, clone, or manage Image Profiles.

An offline bundle is nothing but a .zip archive containing VIBs and Image Profiles. Image Builder refers to an offline bundle as a software depot. In this recipe, we will learn how to import an offline bundle into the Image Builder.

Getting ready

We cannot use the traditional ESXi installer ISO image with Image Builder. Offline bundles can be downloaded separately, either from the VMware Downloads page or from the server vendors repository.
