Discovering your emotional intelligence
Self-awareness is the first step to developing a strong EQ. To determine where you need to focus your growth, you’ll need to assess your own personal EQ. Although there are many EQ tests out there, there are currently 5 that are the most common:
- Emotional Quotient Inventory 2.0 (EQ-i-2.0): Developed in 1997, this tests environmental behaviors relating to emotional intelligence in the areas of self-perception, self-expression, interpersonal skills, decision making, and stress management. This test is available online.
- Mayer-Salovey-Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test (MSCEIT): This test has the tester perform tasks that measure the four branches of emotional intelligence: their ability to perceive, identify, understand, and manage emotions.
- Profile of Emotional Competence (PEC): This test looks at five areas of emotion: the ability to identify, understand, express, regulate, and use your emotions.
